Several manufacturers made bayonets during WWII such as Hikari Seiki Seisakusho, Matsushita Kinzoku, Riken Kozai, Toyokawa Kaigun kosho and Toyoda Jido Shokki Seisakusho. Early bayonets had the hooked quillion, fullered blade, contoured grips with escutcheons screws and birds head pommel. Later bayonets removed the quillion, fuller and had a straight wood grip as they tried to save time to crank out the bayonets. This one is an early war bayonet. This bayonet and scabbard were manufactured in Japanese occupied Inchon Korea. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They both have light impact marks and oxidation. The finish has turned to a dark gray patina color. The rivets securely fasten the grips. They have light oxidation. The wood grip panels have a couple light compressions and draglines. The wood has darkened with age. The spine, sides and fullers have light handling marks and scuffs, but no notable wear. There are no nicks or dings and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The finish is in the white. The right ricasso is marked with the Jinsen Rikugun Zoheisho (Jinsen Army Ministry Armory) logo. The back of the pommel is marked with a Kanji character and the serial number "19960". The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. It would have gotten a better rating but sometimes the bayonet is hard to pull out. There are no obvious obstructions though. The frog band is securely fastened to the body. The body has oxidation, scrapes and scratches. The scabbard has been painted with several areas of paint worn off. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Japanese rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
