Description: STK: #BAYO3Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI 1917 US Army M1903 & M1 Garand Rifle M1905 Springfield Armory Sword Bayonet, ONLY Manufacturer: Springfield Armory Model: M1905 >--> Condition: Very Good - Very Good Plus Blade Length: 16" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI M1903 bolt action rifle and M1 Garand self loading rifle M1905 Springfield Armory sword bayonet, scabbard NOT included. President Roosevelt rejected the M1892 bayonet because it was thought of as being too short for the M1903 rifle. The M1905 was a longer version and it also incorporated a mechanism for locking the bayonet to the scabbard. It also was designed with a screw to hold on the grips instead of rivets. Two manufacturers manufactured the bayonet - Rock Island Arsenal and Springfield Armory. This is a Springfield Armory version. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good - Very Good Plus condition, considering its age. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light handling marks, a light layer of superficial oxidation and the color has turned to a dark patina color. The escutcheon screw securely fastens the two (2x) grip panels. It has started to oxidize and has a strong slot. The grips have compressions, drag lines and a small light crack on the right panel. There is also a dark spot on the right panel that is hard to tell what it is from. Both panels have darkened with age. The spine, sides and fullers have light nicks and scrapes, plus some of the finish has worn off the leading edges. The blade edge has light nicks and dings. It appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. Some of the finish has turned a darker patina mixed with some light superficial oxidation. The left ricasso is marked "S.A." over a flaming bomb / "1917". The right ricasso is marked "US" over the serial number "750215". Scabbard is NOT included. This bayonet will be a great addition to your WWI rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
