In the opening chapters, Goldman slyly seduces his readers with an insider's account of Hollywood and the movie industry. With biting wit and dark humor, he offers us a peek behind the curtain into the secret world of movie stars, studio executives, and film directors--the true powerbrokers of the industry. He follows this with his take on the pitfalls of celebrity fame and the insecurities that plague many of the of the industry's biggest stars. It's only when he alludes to the lives of those who also serve: the screenwriters, production technicans, and character actors, toiling in relative anonymity, does his love for the industry really begin to shine through. The latter half of the book recounts the author's adventures as a working screenwriter, collaborating (or not) with some of Hollywood's biggest stars and film directors on projects that remain legendary to this day. And finally, using one of his own short stories, he describes in detail the agonizing (and sometimes soul shriveling) process of moving an idea from the written page to the big screen. A fabulous book. A heartfelt love letter to Hollywood, but one with a slight aftertaste of strychnine. A Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket with only very minimal wear to the jacket extremities. The detailed photos purposely magnifying the slightest flaw; the book you will receive grades easily among the top ten percent of surviving copies.
