Helped not only at work but in my everyday life. I am so glad I bought this book — 5.0 out of 5 stars Take Bhudda's wisdom to work! I found this book in a little bookshop in Marin Co., CA. Why isn't it being publicized more? Even the authors say "getting promoted is a happy side-effect of excellent work," and this book is just such an excellent work in that it furnishes great exampoles of practical ways to handle ourselves in the ready-made workplace or to create a workplace where dilemmas can be faced with the guidance of Bhudda thinking. Thanks to the authors for this help and recommendations. — Table of Contents: Foreword by Ken Blanchard Introduction: Putting Buddha to Work Part I: Becoming an Enlightened Worker CHOOSING ENLIGHTENED WORK Advantages of enlightened work Developing a vision and mission Choosing the right career or job Attachment and desire at work Becoming a great employee Bolstering employee self-esteem Self-improvement Staying focused PRACTICAL ENLIGHTENMENT Establishing priorities Time management Procrastination Contributing ideas at work Keeping commitments "The ends justify the means" Taking care of company property BECOMING SUCCESSFUL & MAKING MONEY "Playing it close to the vest" Achieving goals Finding the "right" answer to a problem Admitting mistakes Getting promoted Dressing for success Celebrating success "The root of all evil" Personal wealth Greed Getting rich OVERCOMING PROBLEMS Burnout and depression Codes of ethics Wanting too much Really distasteful jobs Hypocrisy Rumors and gossip The company you keep at work INTO YOUR FUTURE People who want to change themselves Making your workday worthwhile Achieving balance between work and personal life Empowering employees The cost of integrity and wisdom What's really important in life Part I: Cultivating Enlightened Work Relationships LEADERSHIP AND BOSSES True leadership Identifying and selecting good leaders Tough, demanding bosses Executive egos Terrible bosses WORKING WITH OTHERS Cultivating good working relationships Influencing others Doing something extra for others Double standards Listening Constructive feedback or criticism Teaching or training a coworker Criticizing someone Encouraging people to be personally accountable DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE Dealing with jerks Coworkers who lie People who don't practice what they preach Being badmouthed Being hurt Adulterous affairs at work Self-righteous "experts" Whiners and negative people at work Conflict with a teammate CUSTOMERS: LOVE 'EM OR LOSE 'EM The importance of customer service Encouragement for customer service people Handling an angry customer Bad customer service Part III: Creating an Enlightened Workplace THE BIG ISSUES Becoming a great employer or boss Making a profit Writing a mission statement Contemporary business language Investing in the future Developing a learning organization Corporate philanthropy Responsibility for the environment Holding onto capital WORK PRACTICES AND PROCESSES Short-term versus long-term thinking Designing work processes Technology The internet Telecommuting Business gurus and consultants Improving communication within an organization Running an effective meeting CARE AND FEEDING OF EMPLOYEES Selecting and hiring the right person for the job Advice for training departments Increasing employee morale Job security Guiding career development SOLVING PEOPLE PROBLEMS Policies and procedures Compensation and employee benefits Employee diversity Stereotyping Sexism Sexual harassment Squabbling coworkers Firing someone for poor performance ORGANIZATIONAL PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS The rat race of work Analysis paralysis Divisiveness and factions within the organization Corporate crises Turning a business around Appendix A: Who Was Buddha?
