The canvas is surrounded by a muted gold, faceted wood "matte"; the next "layer" of the frame features a rectangle of various carved, circular shapes and other added woodwork (all of these "layers" make the frame even more detailed measuring 2.5" W, almost so the canvas is almost an afterthought to the exquisite gilt gold and black frame). The smaller original oil on canvas is beautiful, showing talent in the artist's use of light, perspective and color. I took some pictures, so you can see the frame and how it is definitely a showstopper! It is not signed by the artist, but it looks a lot like many Stuart Slavik originals. It does show some age, although the frame is in amazing condition, and there are a few small scratches on the darker part of the painting (see last photo). It is still a gorgeous piece of art, and if desired, you can use the incredible frame for something else. There are two screws and a wire on the back for hanging, and you can tell the age with the thick staples used on the back. This artwork is handmade and features one-of-a-kind elements, making it a unique addition to any art collection. The painting is contemporary, produced in the 1970s, and has an original production technique. It is a still life style piece with a theme of roses in a vessel, a box, and a rose scarf.
