Description: Awesome Union Fire Ins. Plaque. Made out of cast iron. Black color, with red and gold decorations. Matte finish. It shows an old firetruck and the letters U and F. Decorations in high relief. 2 holes on the sides to attach it to the wall. Plaque is marked on back “3790” / “Union Fire Ins. Co. 1800”. I'm almost sure this is a reproduction from a 19th century original, but it definitively has some age. 8.75” tall x 11.25” wide x 1”. 1lb 14oz. In Very Good condition. It shows a bit of wear and some minor scuffs. No scratches, cracks, repairs, etc. Please, check photos. Fire insurance marks are metal plaques marked with the emblem of the insurance company which were affixed to the front of insured buildings as a guide to the insurance company's fire brigade. These identification marks were used in the eighteenth and nineteenth century in the days before municipal fire services were formed. - Please, email me to ask any question.
