Vintage Egyptian ‘900’ Silver Trinket Box (3” dia)

Description: Egyptian 900 Silver Box Click image to enlarge Description This gorgeous box is made from ‘900’ grade silver (90% purity) which is very slightly lower than sterling standard. It is of circular form with a pull off lid. The lid is exquisitely hand-chased with an intricate design of scrolls and other symbols and the sides of the box are also chased with various designs. The box is fully marked to the base with Egyptian hallmarks. The first mark shows it was made in Cairo and it is made from ‘900’ grade silver. The middle mark, the cat, is the national silver symbol and the final mark is the date letter for 1938/39. Inside, there are 2 further marks in Arabic script but I can’t decipher these. This piece would be perfect for holding trinkets, jewellery or sweets. This box is in beautiful condition with no dents or dints and the decorative detail is still wonderfully crisp. The lid fits on perfectly although it isn’t a tight fit. Please be aware that, after 84 years, there will be some fine surface abrasions caused through handling.
