Description: WOW!!! To describe this awesome pair of abstract sculptures as unique would be an understatement. They are big, bold, and truly magnificent! They have a minimalistic appearance that demands one's full attention to view them more closely. Simply amazing art! Within the laws of physics, the bowls are perfectly balanced and float on the top of the copper pillars. In fact, each piece of material used is perfectly balanced with the others. Bases are made of stone slabs with raw edges and rubber covered copper metal feet. There are 3 industrial grade copper pipe columns which appear like rustic pillars, deeply embedded into the stone slab bases. The pillars support hand formed, thick clay slab pottery bowls with conical points at the bottoms. The bowls were fired using various glazes, colors, and textures making them very unique. Some would call this process "raku style.' The clay bowls can hold candles, dried/silk plants/flowers, seashells, or to add another dimension, place glass or ceramic spheres or balls inside the bowls. It's very heavy. A sturdy assemblage that would look great on a floor, on a table, on a hearth by a fireplace or in a foyer entranceway. We do not know if they would be safe to put on outside such as covered, outdoor porch since climates vary and moisture is not art friendly. Undersides on the stone bases are signed and numbered: Evans #152 and #127. Research found the exact artist's signature on other pieces online and it matches the signatures on this pair. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Tony Evans was a sculptor/artist from EVANS DESIGN GROUP of Healdsburg, California, USA. He was very well known and used various materials in his sculptured designs. He was a highly distinguished member of the American Ceramic Society and lived from 1942 to 2009. We appreciate and welcome any additional information or insight from knowledgeable eBayers regarding the uniquely modern works of art created by Tony Evans. MEASURES: Each sculpture has a slightly different height. One is 18" high and the other is 16" high. Stone bases are approx. 1-1/4" thick and measure 7-1/2" long by 6-1/2" to 7-1/2" wide. Cone shape bowls are 6" in diameter at top and 4" high or deep. Total weight (before packing for shipping) is 13 lbs. (Each: 6 lbs. 11 ozs. + 6 lbs. 5 ozs.) Pieces will be securely padded and bubble wrapped. The bowls will be double boxed for safe shipping. CONDITION: In very good condition. No cracks in pottery or stone slabs. The slabs have raw rough cut edges No bends on metal parts or feet. Since the bowls were made with mixed glazes and various textures, they have naturally formed divots and creases. Rustic brass pipes appear to have been done that way deliberately by the artist. For a dramatic effect, place a battery powered tealight or votive candle in between the piping on top of the base. Add glass pebbles, pinecones, shells, dried flowers, sand, or another set of candles inside pottery bowls on top. Perfect to put on each side of a fireplace. They would certainly make a statement as a focal point in an entrance way. Review photos for full details and to confirm condition. Photos are part of description to show fine details and any flaws. Use zoom features to enlarge areas to review them closely. Additional photos of specific areas can be taken and sent upon individual request.
