This creates a hidden compartment in the empty space between the two where water can be held. The larger bottom pot is completely glazed and waterproof, while the smaller pot that goes on top is only partially glazed and allows for the porous surface of the ceramic pull in the water and feed it to the plant. The inner rim of the smaller pot has a chip missing from it, and the bottom larger pot has scratching on the surface.
