The anti-terrorist center of the SBU "Alfa" was established on its basis by the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated June 23, 1994. The name "Alfa" in the SBU did not arise by chance. Previously, there was a special unit "Alfa" in the USSR. The name of which was limited to only one letter "A", because "alpha" is the first letterof the Greek alphabet (Greek άλφα), that is, to be the first.
