Description: ROSENTHAL 1936 Christmas Plate Nurnberg (Nuremberg) Angel is the title of the 1936 Rosenthal Christmas Plate, the 27th plate in the Rosenthal Christmas series which started in 1910. It features the famous statue of an angel holding a candlestick from the early 16th century, located in The Frauenkirche ("Church of Our Lady") Nuremberg, Germany. Inscribed on the front WEIHNACHTEN 1936 (German for “Christmas Night”). Hand painted under the glaze in blues, browns, grays and greens, with a yellow halo and flame. Banded with gold. Diameter approximately 8 5/8 inches (22 cm). Labeled on the back: “Lichtbote” which translates roughly as “Light messenger”. Angels are often referred to as messengers, so this could also be translated as “Angel of Light”. Artwork by Heinrich Fink. Signed Rosenthal Germany Handgemalt (“handpainted”).
