Later NASCO was contractors for the fork and spoon M-1926 "corrosive resistant steel" U.S. Army Field Mess Gear. Included in the lot is (1) spoon pictured, with copy of advertisement claiming "silverplate to thrill women everywhere with its loveliness" pictured and including the grave site of Mr. Bernstein.UNITED STATES SILVER COMPANY and included in the lot is (1) serving spoon pictured.A rare find ... antique silverplate flatware marked NIAGARA FALLS SILVER COMPANY 1877, included are (6) spoons in the lot.The famous WALLACE SILVER COMPANY was founded in 1835 by Robert Wallace (born 1815). At the age 18, he traveled to New York City and bought the metal (a small piece originating from Germany for the unheard sum of $20) for making flatware from the German chemist Dr. Louis Feuchtwanger With that Wallace was able to formulate the first German silver alloy made in America and pioneered the new industry. WALLACE issued a patent in 1870 for new "DESIGN FOR SPOON-HANDLES" as he describes to the Patent Office; "To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ROBERT WALLACE, of Wallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Spoon Handle". Robert Wallace died in1892, and the sons and son-in-law continued the business as R. Wallace and Sons Mfg. Co. Included in the lot are (1) fork and (1) spoon marked WALLACE XXXX and pictured.
