Description: Rare American REVOLUTIONARY WAR w/ George Washington & Independence ? 1782 News Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THE CONNECTICUT COURANT & WEEKLY INTELLIGENCER, Hartford, April 9, 1782 * American Revolutionary War * America sympathizers jailed * Independence ? Page 2 includes: "The enemy in New York are busy in prosecuting their canal...They are also erecting a line of works on Long Island...His Excellency GENERAL WASHINGTON and his Lady arrived last Monday at Head Quarters, New-Burg, in good health." Page 3 has a report of a London printer going to jail for his criticism of the war in America, with his defense. The lengthy report ends with his comments: "...I have served the public fourteen years faithfully and disinterestedly. Seven years of which I laboured in defending and asserting the rights of my countrymen and fellow citizens! And the last seven years in decrying and exposing the wickedness and folly of the ACCURSED AMERICAN WAR! I now sit down an oppressed and distressed man! And though without a shilling in my pocket, with a wife and 7 children, I go to prison...". Another report mentions in part: "...We have reason to believe that the approaching campaign will be a very vigorous one, and even more brilliant than the last. There is no talk of peace since England obstinately refuses to consent to the independence of America...". Four pages, very nice condition. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind. They are guaranteed to be original! Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at Historys Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Womens Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction. Domestic Shipping Policy... For this specific item, A U.S. winner pays $6.00 S&H.
