Description: Welcome! Original vintage poster in czech language: "KOH I NOOR - SYMBOL JAKOSTI" or "KOH I NOOR - A SYMBOL OF QUALITY" Designed by: anonymous artist, approx. around 1960s Total measurements: approx. 60x40cm Condition report: poster was stored rolled, shows tears and creasing especially on edges and in corners, also shows some yellowing and some stains, bigger stain in the lower right corner area Historical context: Koh-i-noor Waldes is a factory for the production of small haberdashery, such as metal accessories for textiles. The building of the historic factory was located in Vrsovicka street in Prague 10-Vrsovice.In 1902, Jinrich Waldes founded his own company Waldes a spol. and threw himself into buttons with revolutionary inventions and production mechanization (later Eduard Merzinger joined the company, who invested 20 thousand crowns obtained from winning the lottery).Waldes brand Miss KIN with its main production in Prague-Vrsovice continued as Koh-i-noor (the name is derived from the largest diamond) with 300 workers and was one of the largest in the then Austria-Hungary. Within thirty years, the company has become a large concern with branches all over the world, including New York. The company logo probably comes to mind for everyone, but few know its author or the circumstances of its creation. This is said to have been born on a ship sailing to America in 1912, when Waldes companion and actress Elisabeth Coyens amusedly put a large advertising snap on her eye instead of a monocle. Waldes was excited by the sudden scene and inspired her to the Koh-i-Noor logo. He immortalized the red-haired beauty in this situation and sent the photo to Frantisek Kupka in Prague. He painted a picture according to this model, which was graphically edited by another well-known artist today, Vojtech Preissig. The logo of the smiling girl's face with a buttonhole - Frantisek Kupka's image is today owned by the Koh-i-Noor Prague company and is therefore hidden from the public eye. It is only rarely exhibited to public. The end of Jindeich Waldes life was sad - marked by World War 2. The Nazis arrested him for his Jewish origin as early as 1939 and he was imprisoned in the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps for two years. In 1941, his family emigrated to the USA, which then paid Waldes out of prison for 8 million protectorate crowns. He reached Lisbon, but did not survive the voyage to New York. He died under unclear circumstances in May 1941 when the ship docked in Havana, Cuba (ArtRevue, Wiki).
