Canderel was created in 1979 by G.D. Searle Laboratories to market aspartame, an artificial sweetener they invented 14 years earlier. One of the chemists, J. Schlatter, reportedly at the time accidentally tasted an anti-ulcer drug he was working on and discovered that it tasted sweet. Initially, after receiving marketing authorization from the Ministry of Health, the products are sold in pharmacies only. A few years later, in 1985, the Monsanto company bought the G.D. Searle laboratories and became the owner of Canderel. Marketing of aspartame to the general public was authorized in 1988 in France, and the brand was then established in supermarkets. In 2000, the newly formed Merisant Group and co-investors purchased Monsanto's table sweeteners business for US $ 160 million. The brand announces the marketing of a Stevia-based product in 2010. Kiraz was born in Cairo (Egypt), 08/25/1923 and died in Paris, 08/11/2020. Passionate about drawing, Edmond Kirazian, of Armenian origin known as "Kiraz" began his artistic work very early and published his first political drawings at the age of 17, for newspapers such as "Image", "Parade", the “Alexandrian Reform” or in “Al Moussavar”, under the name of “Kiraz”.Kiraz arrived from Cairo to Paris in 1946 and began drawing for the newspaper “La Bataille” (1950-51). He will continue thereafter in “Rouge et le Noir” (1951-52), “Samedi Soir” (1952-54), and “Ici Paris” (1955-59) where he produced plates for the section entitled “Carnets beautiful ". In this post-war period Kiraz will frequent designers such as Peynet, Effel, Bellus, Faizant, Bosc, Chaval, Aldebert, Dubout ... Marcel Dassault, who had noticed his drawings in Ici Paris, asked him in 1959 to create exclusively for his weekly "Jour de France", which he had just created, a column entitled "Les Parisiennes". This is the birth of his famous mischievous young women, elegant, ingenious or mischievous and timeless. Until 1987, Kiraz produced up to two black and white pages and one color page per week, or nearly 25,000 drawings. If Days of France has definitely made the reputation of Kiraz, “the Parisians” will continue to seduce not only in France via magazines like “Gala”, “Paris Match”, “Vogue” or “Glamor” but also foreign ones like “ABC weekly ”and,“ Ola ”in Spain,“ Grazia ”in Italy etc ... Since 1970, at the express request of Hugh Hefner, his "Parisiennes" appear every month in "Playboy". Kiraz will publish albums from the 1950s. There are countless advertising campaigns using Parisiennes. Further information and photographs available upon request.
