Description: This is an original October 1981 issue of Playboy Magazine (subscription edition), and it's part of a trove of magazines we retrieved from a longtime collector. He kept his collection in the basement, and the condition of individual issues ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "space filler" (a CGC 1 or 2). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. Please note that combined product amounts over $35 on a single order from our store get a shipping rebate. The cover of the October 1981 issue is graced by model & actress Cathy St. George. This would be her only appearance on cover, but she would become a Playmate herself in August 1982, and would share a pictorial with her sister Toni three years later in August 1985, shortly before the magazine went to a perfect-bound format. St. George actually started at Playboy as a make-up artist (this would be brought out in her Playmate feature the following year), so she was already ensconced in the world of Playboy and would serve as a reliable brand ambassador for many years to come. Pictorials this issue include "Girls of the Southeastern Conference (Part 2)", another that's a look at the Playboy Club & Casino in Atlantic City, and finally there's one on actress Maud Adams who had captured public attention in 1974's Bond film "The Man With the Golden Gun" and was appearing in 1981's "Tattoo". Adams has the singular distinction of having been a "Bond Girl" more times than any actress, and would appear in the titular role of "Octopussy" just two years later. The sole fiction contribution this issue comes from Robert Stone. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as an interesting article by Christopher Dickey about U.S. diplomacy in El Salvador. The centerfold is Kelly Tough, and the interview is with actor Donald Sutherland. The condition of this issue is, in our opinion, a solid 6. That is, the wear/handling "faults" are a little better than the average amount doled out to collected magazines of this age over the years, but they're not insignificant. Most of the "demerits" can be seen on the covers; the back cover in particular has a nick at the bottom edge that extends inward for several pages, and there's a light, flattened crease on the front across the bottom corner that has collected some ink transfer and light staining over the decades (please see our pictures). Those noted, all pages are present (including the centerfold), the binding staples are secure with no tearing around them, and there are no other dog-ears, creases or folds of note. We feel this specimen would be a solid addition to any classic collection, either in its own right or as a "reader" — you know, the one you take out to read & enjoy while your 9 or 10 stays pristine in its archival sleeve. Speaking of which, all our issues are shipped in protective polybag sleeves.
