Description: Old Kingman Turquoise NuggetsStabilized61.65 Carats/12.33 Grams The Kingman Turquoise Mine is one of the oldest and highest producing turquoise mines in America. It was originally discovered by prehistoric Indians over 1000 years ago. Kingman turquoise is known for its beautiful sky blue colour and produces many variations of blue turquoise. The Kingman Turquoise Mine also produces green turquoise from the Turquoise Mountain side of the mine. Kingman Turquoise has been the biggest supplier of turquoise to the Southwestern turquoise jewelry industry for nearly as long as the American turquoise jewelry industry has existed. The Kingman Turquoise Mine was once part of a turquoise boom around 1000 AD when the Mayan culture was using turquoise for self adornment and ceremonial items. Turquoise is a sky-blue, blue-green to apple/olive green gem. Most turquoise is interspersed with brown, dark gray, or black veins from other minerals or the host rock. Turquoise has a waxy or matte luster. Most of the turquoise on the market has been treated in some way to deal with two problems intrinsic with this gemstone. First, turquoise is soft (5 - 6 on Mohs' scale), sometimes even brittle. Second, turquoise is porous. As a result, it is susceptible to staining, discoloration and fading. Turquoise has been treated for thousands of years. Modern techniques represent "advances" on old solutions. Stabilization and dying are often accomplished simultaneously by adding a dye to clear epoxy, plastic or resin. Given the nature of turquoise, together with the growing shortage of gemstone quality turquoise, these processes are often necessary. These nuggets have been stabilized only, with no dye. The pictures have been enlarged to show detail. I have photographed the turquoise with LED lighting. The nuggets have been placed next to a half dollar for size reference. The half dollar is 30 mm's in diameter. I guarantee that my nuggets are 100% turquoise. They are not reconstituted (powdered) turquoise, imitation turquoise (other gemstone), plastic, resin or glass. Not only is it unethical to not disclose treatments, there are Federal Trade Commission {FTC} Laws regarding disclosure of treatment and/or enhancements in the USA. I guarantee my items 100% and offer a 14 day inspection period. I do not charge a restocking fee on returned items. I am always happy to answer your questions.Thank you for visiting my store.
