I am a backyard gardener who is just trying to find good hands for my plants due to a very limited space I have. Latham Raspberries multiply quickly! There is a certain anticipation of July related to luscious taste of raspberries: taste of Latham is excellent. Happy to share with you Latham Red Raspberries grown without using of chemical herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers. The canes are approximately 8 to 14" tall (similar to what is shown on the picture), 1-2 years old. Should start producing some berries next seasonPictures #1 (in 1 gallon pots) and #2 show examples of older raspberries in the lot. Latham Red has been a generous performer, quick spreader/grower in my yard.Harvest time: 3 weeks in July, midseasonFull Sun, Partial Shade Self-pollinatingHardiness: zones 3-8 Spread: 3-4' Height: 4-5'Planting time: early Spring or September-October. If planting later in Spring or Summer, should watch first 4-6 weeks carefully watering so canes do not dry out. Planting site ideally: Full sun, Partial Sun is acceptable.Full Sun is for best quality and sweetness of fruit, although good berries can be produced in Partial Shade too.Good Drainage: Ideally, it should be freely draining loamy soil without waterlogging tendencies or heavy poorly structured soil. It is desirable to prepare the bed for raspberries ahead of time to let it settle. It can be raised bed with plenty of organic material in it, fertile rich loose soil. All weeds and roots from other plants should be removed, absent. With the planting distance in a row 18" and 3-6' distance between the rows you can make a plantation of 2 rows with 7-8 raspberries each from the pack of 15 canes.Planting Distance: in a row 18" and 3-6' distance between the rows Planting Depth: just barely covering the roots Support: it is desirable to establish support at planting time, for example, wires running along the rows one at 1' level and another at 3' level on both sides of the rows. Fertilization: Addition of compost or chicken manure in the fall (September would be perfect). Fertilize in the fall by spreading 1" layer of composted manure over the root zones of the plant. Also, mulch raspberries to keep the soil moist and cool during the hot days of summer, some winter protection is provided by mulching because the roots of raspberries are close to the surface: use finer mulch, saw dust, shredded leaves for winter. Sometimes you will find recommendations not to mulch raspberries the second year after establishing, that is relevant when the foliage creates enough shade for the root area underneath. Pruning: some pruning should be done a short time after the harvest, late July, beginning of August, most of the canes that had berries this year should be removed, leave the canes that have not yet had berries this year, also stronger new green canes/shoots. In early Spring all the old canes that are dry had berries the previous summer should be removed. Shipping: The plant is going to be taken out of the pot, wrapped in some soil, then plastic. At the arrival of the package you might find some of the leaves are wilting or dropped which is a completely predictable result of a transporting stress the plant has experienced. Plant it at least in the pot as soon as possible, give it water, air and light-set it outside, water regularly until ready to plant in the garden. Roots should not be exposed to air, especially hot air, raspberries would take long to recover. I will use expedited shipping to ship the plants immediately after ordering: the cost is $14.99 Happy Gardening and thank you for visiting this listing.
