This is the year that Topps switched from the soft paper stickers, as made for them since 1981 by the Italian company Panini, to the "hardback" card stock issue offered in this lot. Following this "test" year, The Topps 1988-1990 stickers were produced with hardbacks. Besides the obvious difference in hard and soft stock, there is a Panini US version that has "made in Italy" on the back after the 1987 Topps copyright. Comparing the Topps and Panini versions, there are also variations in color and picture cropping as may be apparent by looking at the Canseco/Bo Diaz duo examples in the scan. Some players appear on two player panels as well as single cards. There is a foil All Star subset, as well as League Championship and World Series highlights.
