The silver-toned 1-1/2" tall St Benedict crucifix and the medal were made in Italy; the chaplet itself was designed and handmade in the USA by me. The eleven beads are 8 mm. The single Our Father is a smooth, round, genuine Tiger Eye gemstone. The ten Hail Mary beads are alternating light cobalt blue faceted genuine Czech glass and smooth, round, genuine Picture Jasper. This 16th century Carmelite priest was a contemporary and spiritual adviser to St Teresa of Avila. She convinced him to reform his Carmelite order to become the discalced (barefoot) Carmelites. This was not well-received by some of his luxury-loving brothers, and he was actually imprisoned for 9 months during the controversy. However, he was victorious in the end with his spiritual reforms. St John was a great contemplative and spiritual writer and was named a Doctor of the Church in 1926.St John of the Cross is a fine role model for young people attempting to follow Christ and live simply in our shallow, material world. He is the patron saint of mystics, mystical theology, contemplatives and the contemplative life, and poets.
