After all, the artist was a native San Franciscan. Artist Louise Frechette (1942 - 2018) was born in San Francisco, and continued to visit each winter, but her summers were devoted to her life in Maine, where she sold her artwork through her Gallery in Kennebunk. Her obituary described how she taught oil painting lessons for years in Maine while raising her family. Then she discovered pastels, and was accepted into the Pastel Society of America. (That PSA designation follows her signature on this painting.) She found the pastels worked wonderfully for the dynamic seascapes she loved to create. Eventually she enhanced her bold colors with metallics onto a near sandpaper quality paper. The obituary mentions how her husband, Carl, matted and framed her work. On weekends they exhibited at art shows across New England with their dog, Edgar Allan Pooch. I found several of Frechette's pastel seascapes for sale online through the Artists of Maine website, where they sell for up to $3,000. The subject of the painting offered here is a mountain, but in form, it resembles those cresting waves! It also features a dusting of real gold highlights, which I tried to show in closeup photos.
