Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Four RARE PORTAGE LAKES Akron OH GLASS SLIDES motor boats, Ohio & Erie Canal? Do you collect early Akron OH area / Portage Lakes images or rare items related to Mid-Century Modern boating images and possibly one of an area related to the Ohio & Erie Canal? Then these are the items for you. (Please note: The slides were professionally produced, and the images are MUCH sharper and crisper than depicted in the accompanying scans. The slides were difficult to photograph.) The four slides and their captions include: · B&W image of a wooden bridge over a river (or possibly a portion of the Ohio & Erie Canal or feeder?) near Portage Lakes. The caption on the slide reads: Could anything be more delightful than a drive through this lane near Portage Lakes on a crisp October day? · A B&W image of a woman gazing dreamily at a channel in the Portage Lakes. In the background are people in a canoe. At least one of the Portage Lakes has ties to the Ohio & Erie Canal – not sure if this scene relates specifically to the canal or not. The caption on the slide reads: A view of the channel at Portage Lakes. Notice abundant foliage. · A B&W image of two motor boats, zipping across the waters of Portage Lakes. Just look at the smiles on those folks zipping across the lake. You can practically feel the refreshing spray of water from the lake. The caption on the slide reads: Others prefer motor boating. These are samples of some of the Portage Lake’s motor boat fleet. · A B&W image of two outboard motor boats, zipping across the waters of Portage Lakes. Just look at the smiles on those folks zipping across the lake. The caption on the slide reads: Still others like the outboard motor which offers speed and pleasure very economically. I found these slides at an Akron estate sale many years back. I am not a photography expert so I don’t know exactly how to describe the items. They look like a Mid-Century Modern version of magic lantern slides. These look as if they were used as a Chamber of Commerce tool to promote the joys of living in this area. These do not appear to be glass negatives, as I don’t see emulsion on the outside of the glass or anything like that. The items measure approximately four inches across and 3.25 inches high. The slides have black tape around the edges – possibly so the hot glass slide could safely be pulled out of the projector? – and it is pretty dusty in places. However, not wishing to inadvertently damage the pieces, I will leave it to the lucky winner to make the decision of whether they want to try to clean these items. Please check scans for condition. Due to the fragile nature of the slides, they will be mailed in a sturdy USPS Priority Mail box. BUYER’s INFORMATION All items sold as is with no refunds.
