Description: Extremely fine and rare extensively tooled and scenic painted leather portfolio. The scene is of an ancient Roman ruin with an overhanging tree and botanical foreground, cypress trees in the distance. The scene to me is reminiscent of works by the American tonalist artist George Inness of the "Roman Campagna." Measures approx. 17" tall x 13" wide. The sides are internally backed with a semi-rigid material which allows the portfolio to keep its rectangular shape.
