Description: This is an HO scale (1:87) Faller model railroad Kit #172, Rural Grade Crossing. I am unsure how old the kit is, but the box is printed "Made in Western Germany", so pre-1991 at least. This model represents an old-fashioned gatekeeper-operated railroad crossing, most common in the late 1800s or early 1900s before automatic gates became standard. Kit includes a baseplate, two gates, two gatekeeper sheds, turnstiles, benches, railings, signs, and instruction sheet. The parts are modeled in multiple colors and may be painted or left unpainted as desired. Styrene cement model glue is required for assembly. The box and instruction sheet have printed sections that may be cut out and glued to the baseplate and signs as decoration. Exactly one small part is missing; in photo 2, there are small round brown parts on the left side of the sprue; these are caps for the concrete bollards on the baseplates. There should be four, but there are only three. The missing part will not prevent assembly of the model or operation of the gates. All other parts are included, and will be packed in plastic bags to avoid the loss of any parts that may come loose from the sprues. Note that although the picture on the box shows the gates being operated by strings, string is not included.
