Shield in left hand, right hand raised. Reverse: Bust of Asklepios right, wearing taenia. Serpent staff before, palm behind. L Ι in right field. The back writing is PMTPP on the left and IICOSIPP on the right. The right is harder to read. It is the Rod of Asclepius on one side and that is a portrait of Asclepius on the other side. Asclepius is the Greco-Roman God of Medicine, son of Apollo and a mortal mother. His portrait is on many Greco-Roman coins. NOTE: An identical piece appeared in CNG mail bid sale XII.
