Thomas Gray's of Rhode Island Personally Owned Revolutionary War Period -Continental Army Soldiers Wooden Rundlet Canteen! c.1770-1778 Rare Original Revolutionary War Hand Turned Oak Wood Rundlet Style Water Canteen measuring 8.25" tall by 4.5" wide . Beautifully crafted canteen with gourd plugs, is lightweight yet solidly constructed . No cork or spout. Thomas Gray has carved his name on either side of the spout hole. This type of Rundlet canteen was used by soldiers in the Continental Army throughout the American Revolutionary War and would carry water or alcohol libations! See Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution, by George Neumann. Condition: This antique Revolutionary War Rundlet Canteen shows nicely, and has been generally well maintained. Thomas Gray Jr. When Col Thomas Gray Jr. was born on 27 January 1729, in Rhode Island, British Colonial America, his father, Thomas Gray Sr, was 24 and his mother, Sarah Bennett, was 18. He married Abigail Brown on 1 November 1747, in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 8 November 1803, in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island, United States.Patriot of the American Revolution for RHODE ISLAND with the rank of LIEUTENANT COLONEL.In 1776 he was commissioned as Captain of the Ninth Company, to be raised in the counties of Newport and Bristol. He was next commissioned Lieutenant Colonel of the First Regiment, Bristol County, and later Colonel of the same. This is an Ex-Museum Piece which had previously been on display in a Private Collection in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years!
