Bellamy Eagle woodcarving roughouts

Description: Offered here are roughouts for carving "Bellamy" style eagles. The Bellamy style was made famous by John Bellamy in ME during the mid 1800's . They are made for hanging on the wall. There is space for a flag under the head, between the wings. Each roughout is different to some extent including size. They are offered in Basswood and Butternut. When you select a specific roughout from the drop down list titled "Variations" you will see a picture representative of the roughout you will be getting, not the actual one, as I sell these locally as well. If you want a picture of the actual roughout you will get please message me in advance of ordering and tell me which model you are interested in. 1A & 2A2 Roughout is made of 2 pieces of wood as the head is a separate piece that can be screwed on during carving process and glued on when ready. The wings/flag piece is cut from a piece that is 1 1/8 inch thick. The head is cut from a piece 2 inch thick Roughout 2B2 is made of 4 pieces with the 3rd and 4th pieces being glued on to the wing tops to give extra thickness to the wings so the wings are about 2 1/8 inch thick at the top and taper down to the bottom. You can see in the pictures for 2B2 how much deeper that makes the wings. The head is cut from a piece 2 inch thick . I have drilled and screwed the head on to the roughouts to facilitate the roughing out. It will ship with the head off and I suggest you start your carving process with the head off. The screws are included when I ship your roughout. I include a CD that goes in your computer with images of various Bellamy eagles that my students have done from these roughouts as well as others. If you don't have a DVD/CD player on your computer message me after ordering and I will send some digitally to you. It also comes with a paper pattern which provides a simple feather layout. Other feather layouts can be seen on the eagles on the CD. I do have a few books on carving Bellamy style eagles that while not having this particular pattern in them, does give guidance on carving Bellamy style eagles which would be very useful to you. New Smaller Bellamy Eagle Roughout is Basswood about 20 inch wide wing tip to wing tip, about 4.5 inches high and 3/4 inch thick. The head is also 3/4 inch thick and will be glued on when you get it. Each roughout has slightly different grain patterns and "character" - they are a "natural" product. Plus they are all slightly different in shape as I rough out with hand operated rotary tools - no computer control here. If you need tools for these I recommend a 3/4 to 7/8 inch wide #7 or # 9 , a 3/4 inch wide #3 gouge and a V tool, all of which I can provide - just request a quote before ordering a roughout and I can provide as 1 package at no additional shipping cost.
