Description: A 4 inch tall round, cylinder-shaped medium AMBER colored antique Nitro Solvent Powder GUN OIL bottle. This CORK TOP (pre-screw-top) bottle is a very hard bottle to acquire with a LABEL on it, and about an impossible bottle to find IN ORIGINAL BOX! And if you do, it is doubtful that it will have the label on it! This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE Mold Blown bottle with a CORK-top, dating back to the early 1900's. These cork-top bottles with label are becoming very Hard to Find! Bottle embossed on shoulder: "HOPPES No 9". Condition: Bottle AND label are in exceptionally good condition. Bottle has content residue, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. Bottle has what looks like a bead of wax around the cork to prevent leakage. Label is about 99% and it is entirely legible and is very rare to find on a bottle of this type! Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE blown-glass bottle (ABM) with a cork-top, ca early 1900's. Shipping: FREE domestic shipping. We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time. In doing research on this little bottle we couldn't help but notice all of the vintage Hoppe # 9 bottles on eBay for sale. Though advertised as antique and 'old' they are ALL newer SCREW TOP bottles. We did not see one cork top bottle. Not only is this one a CORK TOP but it is also FULLY LABELED , the label covers the entire bottle, as seen in the pictures. Here's some of those things about Hoppe's Gun Oil that we learned; Hoppe, whose name is on the bottle, was Frank August Hoppe and was born in Pittsburg Pa., in 1875. Early on he developed an interest in chemistry, target shooting, and hunting. He studied chemistry in school, and pursued a career in that field upon graduation. He also was a pioneer member of the National Rifle Association. During the early years of the twentieth century, smokeless gun powder began to replace the old black powder; and ammunition was extremely corrosive and the cleaning of a firearm was a long, tedious task. Frank Hoppe began to explore combinations of chemicals to simplify the dirty job of cleaning rifle bores. His aim was to develop a product that would remove all primer, powder, lead and metal fouling from the rifle bore; while at the same time protecting it from rust. His experiments eventually led him to perfect the combination of nine chemicals that came to be known as Hoppe's Nitro Powder Solvent No. 9; the "Number 9" representing the 9 chemicals. In the beginning, Frank began to manufacture the No. 9 in a shed behind his home. This led up to the creation of Hoppe Co. that produced the Hoppe's No. 9 and the company was founded in 1903 by Frank August Hoppe. By the time of his death in 1921, the Hoppe name had become known worldwide. Today it is still a top seller in the market of gun oils and cleaners. I use Hoppe # 9 myself late every fall, and the distinct aroma of old No 9 still takes be back to hunting camp and sitting around telling stores of what is now history. Repetition for emphasis, LOOK AT ALL of the vintage and antique Hoppe # 9 bottles on eBay for sale. Though advertised as 'old' they are ALL newer SCREW TOP bottles. And when you do see a cork top bottle, it would most probably be lacking a paper label. This is how HARD TO FIND the bottle here is, check it out!
