Simmons Keen Kutter Item MPN: Antique Butcher Knife made by the Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, MO, founded in 1874 by Edward C Simmons. The knife is quality made having a hand forged carbon steel blade, full tang and bolster. The Simmons Hardware Company was a long running success story using aggressive business tactics. In 1902 they bought the Walden Knife Company and soon merged with the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Their brands flourished for years, however in the late 20s Simmons parted ways with Winchester and returned to it's original core hardware business. Measurements: 8" blade. Overall length is 13-1/4 ". The knife weighs 6.7 oz. before packaging. Condition: The knife is old and well used. The handle has an age darkened patina showing some gouges and gaps around the tang. There is no wobble or looseness. The knife is very sturdy and well balanced. The E.C. Simmons, Keen Kutter markings are faded and the blade shows some discoloration. Nothing is cracked or broken.
