Description: Coalport was established in 1795 and is among the first Porcelain Factories from England. This set was created around 1890-1910 and initially imported through Gilman Collamore & Co. In New York City. This demitasse cup and saucer set is a superb display of their artistry. A fairly classic and simple construction for the time. The white base is just dripping in gold motifs with hand scrolled gold art nouveau frame surrounding a thick gold vine. The plate base, inside of cup, and handle of the cup are all heavily encrusted with gold. Considered in almost pristine condition. This piece is flawless outside from some minor signs of it's age. All I notice is miniscule wear to gold around the base of the cup. Potentially could be washed clean, but I do not clean most of my antiques. The "England Coalport" stamp was used between 1891 and 1920 when it switched to "Made in England" this piece is from the beginning of that period. Both pieces are hand marked 18, for which set of blanks were used. The cup has "T.6061/A" handwritten in gold. The plate also has "25D6" incised under the glaze, as well as the Import stamp from Gilman Collamore of New York. Gilman Collamore, at 20 years old, followed the paths of two of his older brothers in the porcelain and china trade. First Ebenezar followed by Davis, the Collamores found success in trading high end porcelain wares to the social elite of New York. Gilman established his own business in 1861, Gilman Collamore & Co.
