Description: Antique 9ct Yellow Gold Bar Pin Brooch W/ Natural Black Opal Doublet - 1870s Solid 9ct yellow gold. Hallmarked “9ct” The bar pin brooch is in great condition. It has a few minimal scratches on the gold from previous wear. Nothing noticeable. This bar pin brooch is handmade. it was made in Australia, most likely in Melbourne during the 1870s. The main stone is a natural black opal doublet. The opal has been tested and it was confirmed to be natural and without colour enhancements. The opal has an estimated carat weight 1.10cts. The opal is an early doublet. It is a thick sliver of black opal which has been adhered to a piece of white potch opal. No chips or scratches on the opal. No stones are loose or missing. The gold purity of this brooch has been tested and it was confirmed to be solid 9ct yellow gold (37.5% purity) The brooch has never undergone any repairs. No modifications have been made to this brooch. The safety pin and chain are both original to the brooch and they are in good condition. The pin is also in good condition, it is sharp and pointy and showing no signs of being bent or damaged. The pin does have a slight bow in it, although I believe this is how the pin was made. The brooch hasn’t seen a lot of wear throughout its life, it is still in a wearable condition. The brooch is 50.0mm in length. Maximum width is 12.7mm. Maximum thickness is 5.0mm. The pin is 40.0mm in length and 1.0mm in diameter Weight shown in photos. In perfectly wearable condition. Will be posted with a jewellery pouch.
