Admiral Karl Donitz German U-boat Commander WW2 Signed End of War Letter Display

Description: Listed for auction is a stunning framed display which contains a [TLS] typed letter signed by Grand Admiral Karl Donitz. Admiral Karl Donitz [1891 1980] was a German Naval Commander during World War II, who attained the rank of Grand Admiral and was appointed as Commander in Chief of all submarines. He was credited with implementing the submarine tactic Rudeltaktik, commonly called wolfpack. On April 30, 1945, in accordance with Hitler's last will and testament he was named President of Germany and Commander of all German Forces. On May 6, 1945, he ordered the surrender of all German forces thus ending World War II in Europe. After the war he was found guilty ''crimes against peace'' at the Nuremberg Trials and was sentenced to ten years in prison and was released in 1956. The display is centered around a beautiful color image of a German U-boat at sea. The photograph is a quality image which measures 12.00 x 7.00 inches. The [TLS] typed letter signed is actually a [post war] souvenir typed transcript which reads as follows, 6 May, 1945. To: Generaloberst Alfred Jodl: Full power to sign in accordance with conditions as given has been granted by Grossadmiral. Generalfieidmarschall Keitel. The page is signed ''Donitz 11.1. 79'' in blue felt pen above his typed title as Grossadmiral Karl Donitz. The letter refers to orders given by Admiral Donitz during the last days of the war to general Jodl to sign the surrender document on behalf of Germany. The letter measures 7.00 x 6.00 inches [displayed] and is in fine condition. Mounted below the letter is a Kriegsmarine Cap Talley [quality reproduction], and two [2] Kriegsmarine Submarine War Badges [quality reproductions]. The last item is a professionally engraved plaque, ''Grand Admiral Karl Donitz. 1891 - 1980. Admiral Donitz began his military career in 1910 with the Imperial German Navy and commanded a U-boat during the First World War. In 1939 he was promoted to Supreme Commander of the Kriegmarine's U-boat Arm where he planned and led the U-boat war against the Allies in the North Atlantic. He devised and implemented the U-boat wolfpack strategy on Allied shipping which greatly limited the supplies to Great Britain. In 1943, he was appointed to the rank of Grand Admiral of the Navy and served in this position until the death of Adolf Hitler on April 30, 1945. On May 7, 1945, Donitz ordered the surrender of all German forces to the Allied powers. In 1946, Donitz was convicted of war crimes and was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. The display has been professionally triple matted in a blue linen outer matte and accented with a gold and a black inner matte. The framing is quite unique, it is a heavy wood frame that has the appearance of a black iron bar with rivets and the display dimensions are 27.00 x 22.00 inches and it is stunning.
